Most common types
All human parasites are divided into 2 groups: ectoparasites and endoparasites.
Ectoparasites are those that live on the outside of the human body, mostly on the skin and hair. There are near a dozen of known ectoparasites - fleas, lice and bedbugs among them.
In contradistinction to previous group, endoparasites are those that live inside the body, usually in stomach, intestines, eyes and even brain. This is much bigger group with more than 60 known organisms, both single-celled and multicellular. It includes plasmodium falciparum (most common reason of malaria), flukes, tapeworms, roundworms and others.
